Karl Deisseroth, 2026 Nobel Laureate and 2021 SINe Medal Recipient
The Italian Society for Neuroethics and Philosophy of Neuroscience (SINe) congratulates Karl Deisseroth on being awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, jointly with Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel, “for their discoveries concerning light-gated ion channels and optogenetics.”
We are pleased to recall that in May 2021, on the occasion of the 12th International Conference on Neuroethics: New Ways of Investigating the Brain, Deisseroth was awarded the SINe Medal. At the conference he delivered the lectio magistralis “Inner Workings of Channelrhodopsins and Brains: A New Way of Looking at the Mind in Action“.
His work has transformed the way we study the brain and has opened new perspectives for neuroethical and philosophical reflection on neuroscience. To him, to Hegemann and to Nagel, we extend our warmest congratulations.

La Società Italiana di Neuroetica e Filosofia delle Neuroscienze (SINe) si congratula con Karl Deisseroth per il conferimento del Premio Nobel per la Fisiologia o Medicina 2026, assegnato insieme a Peter Hegemann e Georg Nagel “per le loro scoperte sui canali ionici attivati dalla luce e sull’optogenetica”.
Siamo lieti di ricordare che nel maggio 2021, in occasione del 12° Convegno internazionale di neuroetica Neuroethics: New Ways of Investigating the Brain, Deisseroth fu insignito della Medaglia SINe. In quella sede tenne la lectio magistralis Inner Workings of Channelrhodopsins and Brains: A New Way of Looking at the Mind in Action.
Il suo lavoro ha cambiato il modo di studiare il cervello e ha aperto nuove prospettive anche per la riflessione neuroetica e filosofica sulle neuroscienze. A lui, a Hegemann e a Nagel vanno le nostre più sincere congratulazioni.
